Spectrum

Since creating Spectrum, I have become aware of how I have a tendency to contemplate the self when I'm left to my own devices. This artwork was created during one such period while my boyfriend was visiting his home country. His absence facilitated an intense period of introspection, and I began to consider how our personalities are like a spectrum of colours—blended, mixed, and selectively shown or hidden depending on the situation.
Yellow, red, and blue.
Logic, ego, and emotion.
Using myself as the model, I went to great lengths to infuse realism into each figure, yet emphasising the symbolic hues. Though these aspects don’t exist in perfect harmony, that is true for all of us - can anyone claim in all modesty to be a perfectly balanced being?
Spectrum is, to date, my most ambitious work. It is my invitation to you - yes, you - to reflect on your own complexities and consider how your own spectrum presents itself in the world.
